Vac-Con and Local Community Await Major Transportation Upgrades
The First Coast Expressway is a Florida Department of Transportation project that was initiated in 2013. The multi-lane, limited access toll road will span 46 miles connecting the westside of Jacksonville to I-95 in St. Augustine.
The path of the First Coast Expressway will go just south of the Vac-Con facility in Green Cove Springs. The changes and opportunities to come with this road are unknown, but the Vac-Con team is thinking ahead.
“We’ve been anticipating the First Coast Expressway for about a decade now,” said Todd Masley, President. “It’s proximity to our facility and the accessibility it will provide to the area is an important factory and we are strategizing ways to take advantage.”
The connection of the expressway to Green Cove Springs is expected to be completed by 2025. From here, a new bridge will cross the St. Johns River which is just east of Vac-Con and connect to I-95. “Our leadership is staying on top of the development of the expressway and working closely with community insiders such as the Clay Economic Development and Clay Chamber of Commerce to better understand how our landscape will be impacted. It’s an exciting time in Clay County.”
Completion of the First Coast Expressway is slotted for 2030. See the full timeline at http://firstcoastexpressway.com/
